Remember the 80’s – Facebook Style

May 6th, 2010

If you were lucky enough to either grow up in the 80’s or at least appreciate the retro culture/fads then you might be interested in sampling my new project, 80’s Likes. The concept is simple, my retro themed website shows you long forgotten fads that you can ‘like’ and share with your Facebook fans.

Currently, I only have a limited number of fads to choose from but I plan on adding new ones each week. If you have any ideas please leave a comment. I will gladly give attribution to anyone who submits a fad I use on the site.

Good Habits – Chrome Extension

March 29th, 2010

I’ve never really liked the idea of being punished for indulging in a bad habit, like eating fast food. I believe we should focus on rewarding ourselves for ‘good habits’.

So I created a good habits Chrome extension. Please try it out and send me some feedback.

Feature Spoiler

App: How Interesting Are You?

Lots of ideas spinning around. Within the next week I hope to implement 2 key new features.

1) How interesting are your friends
This will allow users to choose 2 friends and randomly compare themselves to their friends for 3 random questions. It will show a 3×3 grid of scores with an overall ‘winner’. It will also create a permalink so you can share the results with your friends.

2) Become more interesting
This will allow you to specify topics you are currently learning about. Then you will be given a list of interests and the ability to view the Kosmix, MeeHive, Google News or Bing page for that interest. Each time you click on one of those links you earn a ‘learning point’. You can get a maximum of 10-20 learning points per day. And this would create a new ‘apprentice leaderboard’ to highlight diligent pupils.

Now Tweeting User Rank

March 8th, 2010

App: How Interesting Are You?

I still haven’t gotten any user feedback on tweeting ranks so I wrote a bit of code just do it and we can adjust if this isn’t something you guys are interested in.

Here are the first 2 tweets so far:

1) @dcfemella is currently the #21 ranked musician on Twitter with a score of 28. #HIAY

2) @AlbertEliasMGMT is currently the #5 ranked movie critic on Twitter with a score of 16. #HIAY

As you can tell, I’m also using the #HIAY hashtag to keep things condense.

Update: I’m only tweeting scores of 10+ in an attempt to not embarrass anyone by tweeting their 0-1 scores.
